Volunteers are the life-blood of our privately funded and operated SPCA. The most important people at the SPCA are our field and fundraising volunteers. All volunteers must complete a background check and have verifiable references.
Here are the current volunteer opportunities available to you:
- Field Investigators| SPCA Field Investigation volunteers are responsible for investigating all complaints of animal cruelty as assigned and working with local agencies to ensure prosecution of all observed violations throughout the judicial system.
- Requirements:
- Volunteer a minimum of 10 hours per month. This includes both field time, office time and court time (if required).
- Vehicle with insurance.
- Appropriate capture and restraint equipment.
- 8 hours of in-classroom training.
- Successfully complete Field Training Program.
- Requirements:
- Fundraising Team| Assist and develop fundraising programs across the City as directed by Fundraising Coordinator.
- Requirements:
- Volunteer a minimum of 10 hours per month.
- Requirements:
- Wildlife Rescue Team| Respond to regular and emergency complaints of injured, orphaned and displaced wildlife across Southeast Louisiana and the Greater New Orleans area.
- Requirements:
- Volunteer a minimum of 10 hours per month.
- Vehicle with insurance.
- Appropriate capture and restraint equipment.
- 8 hours of in-classroom training.
- Successfully complete Field Training Program.
- Requirements:
- Shelter & Field Support Team| Respond as needed to our private shelter to care for our impounded animals. Respond as needed in the field to assist in the capture and transport of both domestic and wild animals.

- Volunteer a minimum of 10 hours per month.
- Vehicle with insurance.
- Appropriate capture and restraint equipment.
- 8 hours of in-classroom training.
- Successfully complete Field Training Program.
